This snapshot here reflects the noise level in my living room with the windows closed and the HVAC off. Why is it 19.6 and not 0 db? Because things in our living space generate noise. Noise that we no longer notice because our brains have moved it from the forefront of our perception and tagged it as background. Stuff like refrigerator compressors, computers, ceiling fans and who knows what else. We don’t realize at first that it takes some work to build a quiet space. Especially if we live in the city with sirens, helicopters, lawn mowers, cars blasting bass music or kids and pets. They are 3ft high, 8-12” deep triangular foam wedges you stick in the corners. You can stack several on top of each other to bring them up to mouth level. After spending her childhood acting in her hometown community theatres, Michelle continued performance through college and received a BFA in theatre/television from TCU. She spent many years working as an actor, director and producer, living in Chicago and New York City. It's hard to say how many plays Michelle has been in or directed, but the number is easily near a hundred. Growing up with a teacher as a mother, seeing how hard she worked, Michelle never thought she would teach. Then one day, she signed up for an acting class with Bob Krakower, beloved teacher, casting director, acting coach and theatre director. The class changed Michelle's life. She had such fun and so loved the way he taught that she decided maybe she wanted to teach after all. Deciding she wanted to be closer to her family in Texas, she moved back and began teaching. Michelle quickly learned how different teaching actors is compared to teaching kids in school! As it turned out, she found she was really good with kids, especially getting great performances from them. Michelle has been teaching theatre now for 13 years. She continues to act, with her latest ventures taking her to Pocket Sandwich Theatre and Richardson Theatre Center. She is also a member of American Immersion Theatre, a murder mystery company, which gives her the opportunity to play lots of fun characters! She went on to screen acting while earning her B.A. in Film and Media Arts from the University of Utah. Amanda’s professional media career began in television at KTVX in Salt Lake City.
